Dicko’s qualifications are actually that of being in the industry which involved being part of the upper management in Sony BMG. He may not be as qualified as some who have PhDs in music (e.g. Dr. L), but having experience in the record industry means that he somewhat understands the nature of the recording business.

Think about it. They’re entering a national talent search for a ‘popular’ star and it’s not a revelation that pop is very much about image.

The eventual star (and every other contestant in the top 12) will be thrust into the spotlight and will have a huge amount of media attention and criticism. If they’re so fragile that they can’t handle a little bit of (often deserved) criticism of their vocals or their ‘look’, then they’ve come to the wrong competition.

And to be perfectly honest, Dicko is probably the most reasonable judge on that panel. If you want to take down anyone, you should start on Kyle Sandilands.
